Week of August 19th

Happy Friday Pandas!

The pandas had a wonderful week continuing to meet new friends and new teachers at Willow Grove.

General Updates:

Willow Grove is in the process of creating a MakerSpace library. MakerSpace is a place during play where students can explore, design, and create. Students have the freedom to build and construct during our paly. We are so excited to bring MakerSpace to our classroom, but we need your help! In order to have a successful MakerSpace for students to use, we are in need of donations year round. If you are able, we would so appreciate any donation you are willing provide. Below is a list of different items we would love to add to Willow Grove's MakerSpace library.

This week in literacy...

Phonics: We practiced descriptive and positional words along with rhyming (a rhyme is a word that has the same middle and ending sound but a different beginning sound). We learned that when reading we read from left to right and practiced describing pictures in the order we see them (before, after, first, next, last).

Reading: We continued learning about expected behaviors through literature stories. Some of these texts included: David Goes to School, Adventure Annie Takes Kindergarten, and My Mouth is a Volcano.
Writing: Our writing unit begins with pictures! We learned that the details in our pictures help the read understand what the story or writing piece is about. This week we learned that different shapes can help us create pictures.

This week in math...

In math we explored manipulatives and counting. Manipulatives are items that we are able to touch and move while doing math. The manipulatives we practiced using this week included: play-doh, dice, bears, and counters. We are also practice 1:1 counting with our 5-frame. A 5-frame is a tool that shows 5 boxes. We practiced rolling a dice and counting out that many objects to put in our 5-frame.

Reminders

Please label your child's snack daily and pack this separate from the lunchbox.
Water bottles stay in the classroom, if you want your child to have a drink for lunch, please send a separate drink.
If you would like your child to buy a drink at lunch, please make sure there is money in the account for the lunch card.
Extra clothes and PE shoes should be labeled and stored in your child's cubby.
