This week in literacy...

  • Phonics: This week we continued working on segmenting and writing words with 2, 3, and 4 sounds. We have also been working hard on reading sentences made up of heart words and spelling patterns we have learned. This we learned about sound buddies. Sound buddies are words that have two consonants next to each other like "desk" and "bend." The consonants are next to each other, but do not change the sound. The sound stays the same if either sound is taken away. We also learned about the chunk "all." Whenever we see the letters /a/ /l/ /l/ they will always make the sound "all" just like in the words tall and ball.

  • Reading: This week we continued our weather unit with a literature text, Come on, Rain! Using this text, we picked out the most important details that happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the text. We then used only the most important details to retell the story.

  • Writing: In writing we continued working on informative writing. We continued to read different weather texts and write our own books! We read two different informational weather books this week and practiced writing our own topic sentence and facts about our topic. The pandas are encouraged to stretch out the words to hear and write down each sound in the word.

This week in math...

  • This week in math we learned about teen numbers agamend determining which number is greater than and less than the other. We played a fun game called Capture the Number, where students had to identify the teen number in dots and match it to the teen number numerals. We also played another game called Double Top Draw, where each player chooses a card and then spins a spinner to determine if the winner is going to have the bigger number or the smaller number. The winner gets to collect the cards!

Reminders

  • Please label your child's snack daily and pack this separate from the lunchbox.

  • From the principal's message: As a reminder, all snacks sent to school must be on the Approved Snack List. Our Approved Snack List is updated annually and was recently reviewed in December, carefully curated by staff and parent volunteers, taking into consideration your valuable feedback. We kindly ask that you review the snack list HERE to ensure you are sending appropriate choices with your child to school (our website link has also been updated). If an item is not on our list, it will be sent home. Our aim is to provide a wide variety of snacks that are safe for all students, eliminating the top 8 allergens and gluten, making it a "win" for everyone! For daily snacks, excluding fruits and vegetables, we kindly request that all items be pre-packaged and must be brand-specific. This helps teachers easily check the snacks and ensure they comply with our safety standards. Thank you for your support in creating a safe and inclusive environment for our students. Together, we can ensure that all our children enjoy their snacks while staying healthy and happy in our classrooms!

  • Water bottles stay in the classroom, if you want your child to have a drink for lunch, please send a separate drink.

  • If you would like your child to buy a drink at lunch, please make sure there is money in the account for the lunch card.

  • Mystery Guests- Monday 12:30-12:45 pm Click here to sign up

  • Gym shoes: Children have gym as their last subject of the day with them wearing gym shoes to participate.  However, they may have boots to change into for dismissal/home.
