This week in literacy...

  • Phonics: This week we continued working on segmenting and writing words with 2, 3, and 4 sounds. We have also been working hard on reading sentences made up of heart words and spelling patterns we have learned. This we continued to practice words with sound buddies (consonant blends) and digraphs. Sound buddies are words that have two consonants next to each other like "desk" and "bend." The consonants are next to each other, but do not change the sound. The sound stays the same if either sound is taken away. We also began learning about syllables this week. A syllable is a word chunk that contains a vowel. We learned how to stomp each syllable with our fist and then blend it together.

  • Reading: This week we started learning about plants! With the new information we learned about plants, we were able to plant our own seeds! We will continue to take care of them for a few weeks to see how much they are able to grow :) We are keeping a plant journal to write down the observations we notice throughout the weeks.

  • Writing: In writing we introduced a new unit of writing, narrative writing. Narrative writing is a story. It can be real or imaginary. Narrative writing must include multiple story elements. These story elements include: characters, setting, events, and character reactions. A narrative story should also include a beginning, middle, and end.

This week in math...

  • This week in math we practiced composing teens numbers. Teen numbers are 11-19. We learned that it is easiest and most efficient to group teen numbers in a group of 10 and then extra 1's.

Reminders

  • Please label your child's snack daily and pack this separate from the lunchbox.

  • From the principal's message: As a reminder, all snacks sent to school must be on the Approved Snack List. Our Approved Snack List is updated annually and was recently reviewed in December, carefully curated by staff and parent volunteers, taking into consideration your valuable feedback. We kindly ask that you review the snack list HERE to ensure you are sending appropriate choices with your child to school (our website link has also been updated). If an item is not on our list, it will be sent home. Our aim is to provide a wide variety of snacks that are safe for all students, eliminating the top 8 allergens and gluten, making it a "win" for everyone! For daily snacks, excluding fruits and vegetables, we kindly request that all items be pre-packaged and must be brand-specific. This helps teachers easily check the snacks and ensure they comply with our safety standards. Thank you for your support in creating a safe and inclusive environment for our students. Together, we can ensure that all our children enjoy their snacks while staying healthy and happy in our classrooms!

  • Water bottles stay in the classroom, if you want your child to have a drink for lunch, please send a separate drink.

  • If you would like your child to buy a drink at lunch, please make sure there is money in the account for the lunch card.

  • Mystery Guests- Monday 12:30-12:45 pm Click here to sign up

  • Gym shoes: Children have gym as their last subject of the day with them wearing gym shoes to participate.  However, they may have boots to change into for dismissal/home.
